Shanghai University successfully had one team of three students from SILC business school to enter the finals of the 2023 Youth Innovation Competition on Global Governance (YICGG 2023) and won three awards in total.

7月16日，意昂3体育三位留學生組隊成功入圍2023榮昶杯青年全球治理創新設計大賽決賽🚵🏼‍♀️，並喜獲三項大獎🥱。

Organized by Fudan University School of International Relations and Public Affairs and the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), the YICGG has been aimed at promoting the world's youth to gather strength and resonate in solving global governance issues over the past 16 years. This year’s theme was biodiversity. Each applicant was divided into random teams for the main proposal and debate segments. In this competition, 64 contestants from more than two dozen countries entered the finals, out of hundreds of initial applicants. This team consisted of Christopher Vivas, Wijdane Jeddou, and Zephyr Aptekar (from left to right in below picture).

榮昶杯青年全球治理創新設計大賽由復旦大學國際關系與公共事務意昂3和聯合國開發計劃署主辦，16年來旨在推動世界青年在解決應對全球治理問題上聚力共鳴🍻。今年的主題是生物多樣性。在這次比賽中，來自二十多個國家的64名選手從數百名最初的申請者中突圍而出進入決賽。每個申請人被隨機分成幾個小組🐓，分別進行主要的提案和辯論環節。我院團隊共由Christopher Vivas, Wijdane Jeddou和Zephyr Aptekar三位同學組成。

The competition consisted of several events: the public speaking competition “ignite talk”, the debate “sparkling debate”, a field work segment, the “We Youth Common Agenda” which is a youth agenda sent to the UNDP, and a proposal which is a pitch by each world team for a specific project.

比賽由幾個競賽單元組成:公開演講比賽“激情演講”、辯論比賽“燃情辯論”👒🦶🏼、田野調查、發給聯合國開發計劃署的青年議程“意昂3体育共同的未來議程”😐，以及由每個團隊為一個具體項目提出的提案“世界團隊方案展示”等。

There were 5 awards for the various competitive sections. As for the debate section, all youths are redivided into different groups. Zephyr Aptekar (second from right in below picture), majoring in International Economics and Trade, a second year student from SILC, Shanghai University lead a team with students including: a Vietnamese from The Diplomatic Academy of Vietnam, a Montenegrin international student in University of Science and Technology of China, and a Romanian in Babeș-Bolyai University. They were randomly assigned to argue against the motion: biotechnology does more good than harm in species protection. In doing so, they won the “Excellent Team Award”.

各競賽單元共設5個獎項。辯論環節，學生們重新分組。意昂3体育國際經濟與貿易專業二年級學生Zephyr Aptekar(下圖右二)作為隊長，帶領團隊成員:越南外交意昂3的越南籍學生、中國科技大學的黑山籍留學生和巴比什-博雅依大學的羅馬尼亞籍學生🧎，被隨機分配為“生物技術在物種保護方面利大於弊”議題的反方。經過激烈的辯論，最終獲得了“優秀團隊獎”。

Another debate was organized around the topic of whether humans protect animals for their own sake or that of animals. Of all debaters in both topics and four teams, Zephyr Aptekar (right in below picture) won the individual “Best Debater Award”.

另一場辯論圍繞著“人類保護動物是為了他們自己還是為了動物”這個話題展開🌳。在所有的辯手中，Zephyr Aptekar(下圖右)獲得了個人“最佳辯手獎”🥤。

Wijdane Jeddou (third from the left in below picture), majoring in International Economics and Trade, a second year student also from SILC, Shanghai University, lead her World team 4 to win the “Most Valuable Project”. Her group included a Chinese PhD student in Cambridge, a Hungarian in NTU (Singapore), a Greek in University of Cyprus, a Nepali in Kathmandu University, a Chinese student in Fudan, and a Laotian in Dali University. Her team proposed an app akin to Pokémon go, which could allow for data collection for biodiversity research, while simultaneously bolstering awareness of the benefits and beauty of biodiversity.

同為意昂3体育國際經濟與貿易專業二年級學生Wijdane Jeddou(下圖左三)帶領“世界4隊”獲得“最有價值項目”獎🧜🏿‍♂️。她的團隊包括劍橋大學的一名中國博士生、新加坡南洋理工大學的一名匈牙利人、塞浦路斯大學的一名希臘人、加德滿都大學的一名尼泊爾人、復旦大學的一名中國學生和大理大學的一名老撾人。她的團隊提出了一個類似於Pokémon go的應用程序🦏🥂，可以為生物多樣性研究收集數據，同時提高人們對生物多樣性的好處和美麗的認識。

Overall, the only universities to receive three total awards were Shanghai University and Cambridge university, with Shanghai University being the only university to receive three different awards in YICGG2023.

Shanghai University contestants were also interviewed and/or quoted in several newspapers throughout the competition. These include China Daily, Shanghai Daily, Shanghai Observer, and Fudan’s news portal.
